The campaign that bears the title “Dem lebendigen Geist” (roughly translatable as “To the Creative Mind”) is dedicated to the future of Heidelberg University. Its aims are shared and actively supported by the members of the University staff, prominent alumni, friends of the University and citizens who identify with its endeavours.

The first project in the campaign is to renovate and modernise the New University building. We have chosen the dedication inscribed over the main entrance as the name for our initiative, the aim of which is to have the building completely renovated in time for the University’s 625th anniversary celebrations in 2011. The renewal plans are by no means restricted to the façade and the modernisation of the lecture halls. They also extend to the inner courtyard and the Universitätsplatz, the large square in front of the building. In short, our intention is to raise the whole ensemble to a standard fully commensurate with the excellence of Heidelberg University.
